Born into a family of rich musical traditions, Vladimir Mendelssohn finished his viola and composition studies at the Music Academy of Bucarest with several First Prizes. His worldwide tours as soloist and composer reveal a constant musical research and concern about innovation, both balanced by a brilliant performing technique for classical and romantic repertoire. He has given masterclasses in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Italy and performed at European Festivals with Gidon Kremer, Alain Marion, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Vladimir Spivakov, Aurèle Nicolet, Michel Lethiec…
He has composed works for chamber music groups, symphonic orchestras as well as theatre music. Since 1979, he has been living in the Netherlands. He teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Den Haag and at the Folkwang Hochschule of Essen.
